Job Description 

  • Candidates are appointed to maintain storage areas. Takes temperatures of refrigerators and freezers and reports temperatures that are not in the proper range.
  • They’re also appointed to rotate food according to expiry dates and inform supervisors regarding stock working at this post. 
  • They’re also appointed to prepare food and beverages by cleaning, peeling, mincing, cutting, chopping, mixing, portioning, measuring ingredients, packaging labelling, etc.
  • They’re appointed to fill steam tables. Steams, boils, deep fries and re-thermalizes food.
  • Candidates appointed to load carts with dishes, utensils, containers and trays necessary for service and deliver to dining and service areas
  • They’re also required to attend staff meetings, committee meetings and in-service training working at this post. 

Job requirement 

  • Candidates must have considerable experience in preparing and serving food for large groups in a large-scale food service setting.
  • They must have successful completion of the Food Handler/Safety Awareness Program offered by the Local Board of Health.
  • They must have completed a 1-year Food Service Worker certificate to be eligible for this post. 
  • Candidates must have excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • They must attain the ability to resolve conflicts and de-escalate situations.
  • They must have the ability to operate and clean various pieces of food service equipment.
  • They must have fundamental knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, the Sanitation Code and related legislation.
  • Candidates must attain the ability and willingness to work weekends, shifts and holidays as assigned.

Work setting 

  • Candidates must have the ability to read and write and follow verbal and written instructions in English.
