Emergency Services Dispatcher

Northern911 based in Sudbury, ON is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Emergency Services Dispatcher who are self-motivated and have good interpersonal skills. It is part of our culture and we analyze ways to serve our clients better on a regular basis. We have procedures and regular training in-place to cover many different scenarios.

To ensure business continuity our Emergency Response Center (ERC) maintains satellite backup sites at secure off-site locations. Our server back up location was chosen to be geographically separate in the event of a large-scale disaster. The candidate who got selected will be required to start work as soon as possible. The vacancies refer to Part time or Permanent employment. The shift timings include Day, Evening, Night, Weekend, Shift and Overtime.

Job Description

  • The candidate would be in charge of receiving emergency assistance or service requests.
  • The candidate would be responsible for maintaining work records and logs.
  • The candidate would be responsible for providing extraordinary services to the customers.
  • The candidate would be responsible for responding to calls for emergency and non-emergency assistance and in dispatching law enforcement, fire fighting or rescue units.
  • The candidate would be responsible for entering unit response details into a database.
  • The candidate would be responsible for addressing problems and requests by transmitting information or providing solutions.
  • The candidate will be required to prioritize calls according to urgency and importance.
  • The candidate will be required to provide field units with information about orders, traffic, obstacles and requirements
  • The candidate would be responsible for coordinating the response team and instruct the caller while waiting for help.
  • The candidate will be required to ask caller to describe the nature of the emergency and asks follow up questions as necessary.
  • The candidate will be required to record the caller’s location and personal information.
  • The candidate will be responsible for advising callers on the best course of action, calming them down, and documenting their condition until emergency personnel arrive.
  • The candidate will be expected to keep track of the location and activity of emergency units in the area.
  • The candidate will be in charge of monitoring the activity of emergency vehicles and on-duty personnel during the shift.
  • The candidate will be required to submits call logs and caller information to law enforcement and legal officials when necessary.
  • The candidate will be required to reports any fraudulent or prank emergency calls to supervisor.
  • The candidate will be required to identify appropriate number and type of equipment or apparatus to dispatch
  • The candidate will be in charge of operating a multi-line telephone console system, an alerting system, and a TDD system for deaf and hearing-impaired people.
  • The candidate will be required to translate information to the appropriate codes
  • The candidate will be responsible for communicating effectively with the caller and the dispatch team.
  • The candidate will be required to track emergency vehicles to ensure a timely response

  • Previous experience is not mandatory.
