Job Description

The candidate will be responsible for delivering services, consultation, and crisis support to families, children, youth, and caregivers in diverse circumstances.
The candidate will be responsible for recommending community services and assisting families and caregivers in accessing appropriate services and referrals by assessing their needs and available community resources.
The candidate will be responsible for working with delegated Ministry staff to coordinate alternate caregiving arrangements for children and youth who are unable to remain in their family homes. The role includes visiting family homes and caregiving placements.
The candidate will provide support and services to youth, including assessing eligibility for youth agreements.
The candidate will be responsible for bringing together the circle to coordinate the completion of family, cultural, permanency, and care plans for children and youth in care and documenting the completed plans.
The candidate must build and maintain connections with Indigenous communities to support children, youth, families, and collaborative planning.
The candidate will review MCFD records to understand current concerns, historical events, and information related to a child’s heritage and Indigenous culture, and develop and implement plans that help children, youth, and families connect with their extended family and community.
The candidate must collect and use relevant information promptly to develop strategies and prepare crisis stabilization plans in consultation with the Team Leader.
The candidate must alert child protection workers whenever concerns arise that place a child’s safety or well-being at immediate risk.
The candidate will be responsible for supporting children and families by ensuring children’s views are considered and that information is provided in a developmentally and culturally appropriate manner.
The candidate will create and maintain accurate documentation and reports in accordance with legal requirements, policies, and procedures, and enter information into the database when required.
The candidate must collaborate with MCFD employees and community organizations to support positive outcomes for children and families.

Job Requirements

The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or Child & Youth Care.
The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field.
The candidate must have completed Secondary School Graduation or hold an equivalent qualification.
The candidate must have completed two years of post-secondary studies toward a degree, diploma, or certificate in a related human services field or an equivalent discipline, along with a minimum of two years of related work experience.
The candidate must have completed one year of post-secondary studies toward a degree, diploma, or certificate in a related human services field or an equivalent discipline, along with a minimum of three years of related work experience.
The candidate must have a minimum of four years of related work experience.
The candidate must have completed a four-year Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent credit requirement.
The candidate will be required to have educational qualifications in a Human Services discipline such as Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology, or Nursing.
The candidate will be required to obtain an equivalency assessment through the International Credential Evaluation Service if their education was completed outside Canada.
The candidate will be considered if they have completed all required coursework and provide a letter from their educational institution confirming completion of all degree requirements, even if graduation has not yet occurred.
The candidate must hold a valid BC Driver’s Licence.
The candidate must have experience working with children, youth, families, or adults in one or a combination of the following settings and may also have experience supporting children and youth with a history of trauma and/or behavioural challenges.
The candidate must have experience working in a child and family service agency that provides legislated services, including child protection, guardianship, resources, family support, or adoption.
The candidate must have experience working in a social services agency on an Indigenous reserve that provides direct support services.
The candidate must have experience working in a family services agency that provides assessment and counselling services.
The candidate must have experience working in a contracted agency that provides assessment, counselling, and family support services.
The candidate must have experience working in a specialized care setting for vulnerable adults, children, or youth that involves direct work with families.
The candidate must have experience working in a policing, probation, or corrections setting.
The candidate must have experience working in a mental health or healthcare setting that provides assessment and counselling services.
The candidate must have experience working in an education setting that undertakes assessment and counselling services.
The candidate must have experience working in a social services agency that provides services to people with diverse abilities and vulnerable adults.
The candidate must have experience working in a provincial agency dedicated to promoting safe and healthy workplaces while providing services and support for injured workers.
Preference will be given to candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree or a two-year diploma in Social Work or Child & Youth Care.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with Indigenous communities.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with Ministry Policy and Procedures and data management systems such as ICM, MIS, and related systems.
Preference will be given to applicants who self-identify as Indigenous and possess the required combination of education and experience.
The candidate must be located in British Columbia at the time of employment.

Work conditions

The candidate must travel as required to support the Ministry’s operational needs, including occasional overnight travel to rural and urban areas.
The candidate will be required to travel in adverse weather conditions when operationally necessary.
The candidate may be required to use a personal vehicle with appropriate insurance for work-related travel on a reimbursable expense basis.
The candidate must be willing to work with families experiencing complex challenges, including situations involving angry, abusive, or abused clients, and volatile parents or children in crisis.
The candidate must be available to work irregular hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.
