Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in English language.
  • The candidate should have minimum qualification of secondary school graduation or equivalent.
  • The candidate must possess One year of clerical experience, education, and/or training is required.
  • The candidate must have one year of experience providing customer service.
  • The candidate must have experience/training in keyboarding, data entry, word processing, and other standard computer applications.
  • The candidate must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.
  • A candidate with a combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • The candidate must have previous experience working in a legal office or court registry.
  • The ideal candidate will have prior experience with JUSTIN and/or CEIS.
  • The candidate should have excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work.
  • The candidate should have strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • The candidate should be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • The candidate should be organized and flexible in nature.

  • The candidate must manage the care and custody of court exhibits.
  • The candidate will be required to call courts of law to order, read charges, take defendant pleas, swear in witnesses, and perform other clerical duties in courtrooms.
  • The candidate will be responsible for updating and maintaining court office paper and electronic indexes and files on court actions or in response to court decisions.
  • The candidate must receive, disburse, and account for fines, fees, and trust funds.
  • The candidate must be well-versed in the logistics of court proceedings.
  • The candidate must be familiar with the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Outlook.

Provisos

  • Due to late court sittings and short notice, the candidate will be required to work overtime.
  • The candidate will be required to work in other areas of Court Services.
  • The candidate will be required to travel, which may include travel in adverse weather conditions.
  • The candidate must be flexible with work hours, which vary depending on operational demands.
  • The candidate will be required to deal with irate members of the public and clients.
  • The candidate must have a valid British Columbia driver’s licence.
