Job Description
- The candidate will be responsible for developing plans with families to ensure the safety of children and youth through assessment and collaboration.
- The candidate will be responsible for receiving, assessing, and responding to concerns of child abuse and neglect through interviewing parents, children and youth, assessing strengths and needs, working with appropriate agencies, developing safety plans, and determining if protection is required.
Job Requirements
- The candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work, or a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Child & Youth Care, or a Master’s Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology or Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare.
- The candidate must be an in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employee who holds a regular SPO 24–30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
- The candidate may be considered equivalent if they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers, or have a letter confirming their application for registration has been approved.
- The candidate must ensure that education obtained outside of Canada is verified for equivalency through International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES) and provide the required comprehensive and supplemental MCFD reports by the closing date of this posting.
- The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field, or a Bachelor’s Degree with a Major or Honors in a Human Services field, or a Master’s level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field after completing an unrelated Bachelor’s Degree.
- The candidate must provide confirmation of ICES equivalency assessment for education obtained outside of Canada and submit a basic report by the closing date to be considered.
- The candidate must have a minimum of one year of related or job-specific work experience.
- The candidate must be eligible for delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFSCA).
- The candidate who self-identifies as Indigenous with the required combination of education and experience will be preferred.
- The candidate must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).
- The candidate who has not yet graduated but has completed all required courses and can provide a letter from their educational institution confirming completion of degree requirements may be considered.
- The candidate must be located in British Columbia at the time of employment.
