Job Description

  • The candidate will be expected to gather information and write reports or case studies.
  • The candidate will be in charge of administrative and office tasks.
  • The candidate must assess clients’ needs or eligibility for specific services.
  • The candidate must assess the client’s relevant skill strengths and development needs.
  • The candidate will be in charge of housekeeping duties.
  • The candidate will be in charge of food preparation.
  • The candidate will be expected to provide suicide and crisis intervention.
  • The candidate will be expected to resolve conflict situations.
  • The candidate must supervise the activities of clients living in group homes and halfway houses.
  • The candidate will be expected to conduct individual and group counselling sessions.
  • The candidate must communicate with other social service agencies and health care providers who are involved with clients.
  • The candidate will be expected to keep programme statistics for evaluation and research purposes.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in English language.
  • The candidate must have a College/CEGEP diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Candidate having experience is an asset.
  • The candidate must have completed Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), as well as a Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certificate, Medication Administration Certificate, and First Aid Certificate.
  • The candidate must be able to handle weight up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
  • The candidate should be client focused.
  • The candidate should have effective interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate should have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The candidate must be flexible.
  • The candidate must be capable of acting on their own initiative.
  • The candidate should have good judgemental skills.
  • The candidate should be a good team player.

Work site environment

  • The work environment includes Personal and social adjustment, as well as health (substance abuse, gambling, behaviour disorders), Socioeconomic requirements or conditions (housing, nutrition, unemployment, financial assistance), Early intervention programming for at-risk youth and Services for the homeless.

Work setting

  • The candidate must be willing to work in a rural area.
  • The candidate will be required to work in a youth drop-in centre, a social service or charity organisation, and a homeless shelter.

  • The target audiences are adolescents, culturally diverse groups, and the street population.
