Job Description

  • The candidate must interpret welding process specifications.
  • The candidate must be able to read and interpret welding blueprints, drawings, specifications, manuals, and processes.
  • The candidate must examine welds to ensure that they meet standards and/or specifications.
  • The candidate must be able to operate either manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment.
  • The candidate must be able to operate brakes, shears, and other metal shaping, straightening, and bending machines.
  • The candidate must be capable of fitting, brazing, and torch-straightening metal.
  • The candidate must be able to use oxygen arc cutting equipment (arc-air) (AOC).
  • The candidate must determine the weldability of materials.
  • The candidate must be able to use hoisting and lifting equipment.
  • The candidate must be able to operate previously set-up welding machines in order to fabricate or repair metal parts and products.
  • The candidate must operate previously set-up brazing or soldering machines to bond metal or fill holes, indentations, and seams in metal.
  • The candidate will maintain and perform minor repairs on welding, brazing, and soldering equipment.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in the English language.
  • The candidate must have a certificate or diploma in another trade.
  • The ideal candidate will have at least 3 to 5 years of experience in a related industry.
  • The candidate must have Technical Standards Safety Authority (TSSA) Certification, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate, and Forklift Operator Certification.
  • The candidate must be able to handle a weight of up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
  • The candidate should have efficient interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate must have excellent oral communication skills.
  • The candidate should be organized and flexible.
  • The candidate should be a good team player.
  • The candidate must be punctual.
  • The candidate must be hardworking.

Work site environment

  • The candidate will be required to work long hours in an outdoor environment.
  • The candidate must be able to work at heights.
  • The candidate must be able to work in cold/refrigerated, dusty, hot and dirty conditions.
  • The work site environment is noisy, and the candidate must be able to work with complete concentration even in such conditions.

Type of materials

  • The materials are steel, iron, and heavy metals.

Welding techniques

  • The welding techniques include Oxy-acetylene welding (OAW), Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), Gas metal arc welding (GMAW), Flux core arc welding (FCAW), and Plasma arc welding (PAW).

Equipment and machinery experience

  • The candidate must have experience operating Arc welding machines, Gas welding machines, Soldering machines, Spot welding machines, and Welding machines.

Area of specialization

  • The candidate must specialize in custom fabrication, auto repair, truck repair, machinery/equipment repair, structural construction, fencing, balconies, stairs, and railing.

Additional information

Transportation/travel information

  • The candidate must have their vehicle.
  • The candidate must be willing to travel frequently.
  • The candidate must have a valid driver’s licence.

Work conditions and physical capabilities

  • The candidate should be required to handle heavy loads as part of routine work.
  • The candidate should be prepared to perform physically demanding tasks as part of their daily work.
  • The candidate must perform manual dexterity tasks.
  • The candidate should have an eye for detail.
  • The candidate must have excellent hand-eye coordination.
  • The candidate must be willing to work in a standing position for extended periods of time.

  • The candidate must have tools, steel-toed safety boots, and gloves.
