Alberta Council of Turnaround Industry Maintenance Stakeholders based in Fort Saskatchewan, AB is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Welder who are self-motivated and have good interpersonal skills. The Alberta Council of Turnaround Industry Maintenance Stakeholders (ACTIMS) is made up of oil sands owners, heavy industrial maintenance contractors, and labour providers. ACTIMS’ goal is to ensure that the owner stakeholder’s turnarounds and ongoing maintenance projects are fully staffed with skilled, qualified, experienced, and professional tradespeople. Our tripartite Board of Directors is made up of an equal number of senior representatives from stakeholder owners, contractors, and labour provider groups.
ACTIMS was formed to ensure that skilled, qualified, experienced, and professional tradespeople are available for turnarounds and ongoing maintenance projects. We do this by analysing worker demand and matching it with available skills to determine any overages or shortages of specific skills. If a shortage is identified, ACTIMS ensures that all required government documents are completed in order to avoid delays in acquiring foreign workers.
ACTIMS collaborates with federal, provincial, and municipal governments to ensure that new regulatory and legislative proposals do not jeopardise the mandate. One of the primary goals of ACTIMS is to assist you in taking advantage of opportunities to work on multiple job sites, one after the other, once each is completed. The candidate who got selected will be required to start work as soon as possible. The vacancies refer to Term or contract (ending: 2022-09-30) or Full time job. The shift timings include Day and Night (08:00 to 18:00). The position of Welder has been approved by the LMIA.

Job Description
- The candidate will be required to operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment
- The candidate will be required to operate manual or semi-automatic, fully automated welding equipment
- The candidate must interpret welding process specifications.
- The candidate must determine the weldability of materials.
- The candidate must be able to use oxygen arc cutting equipment (arc-air) (AOC)
- The candidate would be in charge of welding blueprints, drawings, specifications, manuals, and processes must be read and interpreted.
- The candidate will be expected to train apprentices.
- The candidate will be required to maintain and perform minor repairs on welding, brazing and soldering equipment
- The candidate will be required to operate previously set-up welding machines to fabricate or repair metal parts and products
- The candidate would be in charge of inspecting welds to ensure that they meet standards and/or specifications.
- The candidate will be required to use Computer-aided design (CAD)
- The candidate would be responsible for welding small and large components such as copper plumbing, beams, and pipelines.
- The candidate would be in charge of using specialised machinery for industrial welding and supervising machines that do the same thing.
- The candidate will be required to maintain and repair all machinery.
- The candidate will be expected to inspect welded surfaces, structures, and components for flaws.
- The candidate would be in charge of identifying errors in welded surfaces, structures, and components.
- The candidate would be in charge of adhering to and enforcing strict safety regulations, such as the use of heat-resistant gloves, protective masks, and safety shoes.
- The candidate would be in charge of monitoring machinery for proper usage and temperature.
- The candidate would be in charge of welding components in flat, vertical, and overhead positions.
- Based on the requirements, the candidate would be responsible for determining the appropriate welding equipment or method.
- The candidate would be in charge of set up welding components in accordance with specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements)
- The candidate would be in charge of operating angle grinders to prepare the welded parts.
- The candidate will be required to align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces.
- The candidate would be in charge of Keep equipment in good working order so that safety is not jeopardised.
- The candidate would be in charge of testing and inspecting welded surfaces and structures for flaws.
- The candidate would be in charge of reporting machine and equipment damage.
- The candidate will be in charge of laying out and installing piping, equipment, and other mechanical systems in accordance with construction drawings and specifications.
- The candidate would be in charge of replacing and fabricating parts for dump trucks and trailers.
- The candidate would be in charge of ensuring a clean weld joint in order to achieve a smooth appearance.
- The candidate would be in charge of maintaining the disc grinder and performing all metal cleaning and grinding.
- The candidate would be in charge of analysing the speed and length of the welding arc throughout the welding process.
- The candidate would be in charge of assembling all components using power and hand tools.
Job Requirements
- The candidate should be fluent in English languages
- The candidate should have minimum qualification of Other trades certificate or diploma
- The ideal candidate should have a minimum 3 to 5 years of working experience in similar industry.
- The candidate must have Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate, Pressure Welding Certification, Welder Trade Red Seal Certificate and Fall Arrest Protection Training Course

Equipment and Machinery Experience
- The candidate should have prior experience operating an arc welding machine.
Welding Techniques
- The candidate should have strong knowledge in Flux core arc welding (FCAW), Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) (TIG), Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) and Gas metal arc welding (GMAW)
Work Setting
- The candidate will be expected to work in an industrial setting.
Type of Materials
- The candidate will be required to work with titanium and special alloys, stainless steel, and nickel alloys.
