Job Description

  • The candidate must be of legal age to mix and serve alcoholic beverages.
  • The candidate will be responsible for addressing customer complaints or concerns.
  • The candidate must prepare and serve specialty food at customers’ tables.
  • The candidate must present bills to customers and accept payment in cash, credit or debit cards, travellers cheques, or room billings.
  • The candidate must describe menu items, including daily specials, to customers.
  • The candidate will be responsible for enforcing provincial/territorial liquor laws and regulations.
  • The candidate will be responsible for advising on menu selection.
  • The candidate must balance cash and keep sales records.
  • The candidate must clear and clean tables, trays, and chairs.
  • The candidate must describe and advise on wine selection.
  • The candidate must greet customers, present menus, make recommendations, and answer questions about food and beverages.
  • The candidate will be responsible for ordering and maintaining an inventory of wines and wine glassware.
  • The candidate will be expected to conduct sensory evaluations of wines.
  • The candidate must be able to serve food and beverages.
  • The candidate must supervise other servers and bussing staff.
  • The candidate will be responsible for taking orders and relaying them to kitchen and bar staff.
  • The candidate must schedule staff.
  • The candidate must train staff.
  • The candidate must assist clients/guests with special needs.
  • The candidate must provide excellent customer service.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in English language.
  • The candidate must have a certificate of Secondary (high) school graduation.
  • Training will be provided to the selected candidate.
  • The candidate must be able to supervise 1 to 2 people.
  • The candidate must have a Food and Beverage Server Trade Certificate, Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Program, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate, Food and Beverage Server Training, Responsible Beverage Service Certificate, Food Safety Certificate, Safe Food Handling Certificate, Serving It Safe program certification, Serving It Right Certificate, ProServe program, CPR Certificate, and First Aid Certificate.
  • The candidate must be able to lift weights of up to 9 kg (20 lbs), 13.5 kg (30 lbs), 23 kg (50 lbs), 45 kg (100 lbs) and more than 45 kg (100 lbs).
  • The candidate should be client focused.
  • The candidate should have effective interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate must have excellent oral communication skills.
  • The candidate should be organized and flexible in nature.
  • The candidate must be capable of acting on their own initiative.
  • The candidate should be reliable.
  • The candidate should be a good team player.

Work site environment

  • The candidate must be able to work in cold/refrigerated and hot conditions.
  • The work site environment is noisy, and the candidate must be able to work with complete concentration even in such conditions.
  • The candidate must work in an environment with a high concentration of odours.
  • The candidate will be required to work long hours in an outdoor environment.

  • The candidate must work in a restaurant, cafeteria, pub, bistro, fast food restaurant, coffee shop, and formal dining room.
