Vehicle Mechanic

They will perform systematic inspections, overhauls of component parts,  performs preventive maintenance routines and other related duties on light or heavy vehicle to determine the cause of failure, analyses and recommends the course of repair required, verifies the adequacy of completed repair work and certifies vehicles as road worthy. They will verify work done by contractors and certifies that repairs that have been performed are safe, road worthy, reliable and within specifications recommended by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM), provincial legislation or Canada Post requirements.

Job description

  • Candidates will perform maintenance and repairs on light or heavy vehicles (as per certification).
  • They will conduct other maintenance facility activities such as: parts ordering, receiving, stocking and shipping; taking calls and noting actions required.
  • They will inspect light or heavy vehicles within Canada Post fleet and completes the necessary documentation accordingly within Canada Post and Government frequency of inspections (Municipal, Provincial, and Federal). 

Job requirement

  • Candidates must have secondary school diploma or equivalent (as per provincial requirements).
  • They should possess graduate of technical/apprenticeship program for Automotive Service Technician (light vehicles under 4,500kg) OR Truck and Coach Technician (heavy equipment / vehicles over 4,500kg) accrediting qualification in one of these classes of vehicles.
  • They need to hold appropriate valid certification for the maintenance and repair of light OR heavy vehicles recognized in the province of employment.

Work setting

  • They must escalate any problems by completing the appropriate reports.
  • They ought to provide input and support as required to front line operations on operating requirements, vehicles and driver habits.
