Job Description

  • The candidate will be expected to provide technical support and expertise in surveying and mapping for the design and construction of transit lines, transit sites, and associated facilities.
  • The candidate will be in charge of surveying, mapping, and building records.
  • Prior to fieldwork, the candidate will be required to plan and prepare.
  • The candidate will be required to conduct in-house field surveys.
  • The candidate will be required to perform office computations, data analysis, and CADD drafting.
  • The candidate will be responsible for monitoring field surveys conducted by contractors and technical staff.
  • The candidate will be required to review and audit contractor survey results.
  • The candidate will be expected to review drawings and interpret track geometry specifications.
  • The candidate will be expected to maintain status reports for various work projects and to communicate with management and other staff as needed.
  • The candidate will be responsible for coordinating, scheduling, monitoring, and reviewing the work of technical staff as needed.
  • The candidate will be expected to ensure that work is completed safely, on time, and within budget.
  • The candidate must prepare technical reports and other correspondence as needed.
  • The candidate will be required to compute simple survey-related calculations as well as lay out lines and grades.
  • The candidate will be responsible for inspecting and adjusting survey instruments and devices.
  • The candidate should be able to operate survey instruments such as theodolites, levels, total stations, and other survey devices.
  • The candidate will be expected to carry out related duties as assigned.
  • The candidate will be required to participate in the TTC Customer Service Ambassador Program.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in English language.
  • The candidate must have a postsecondary college diploma or a university degree in a related discipline, or a combination of education, training, and experience deemed equivalent.
  • The candidate must have or obtain O.A.C.E.T.T certification within a time frame determined by management.
  • The candidate should be familiar with surveying and mapping principles, methods, and practises for transit project design and construction, with a focus on control surveying, topographic surveying, property surveying, utility surveying, deformation monitoring, and other design survey work.
  • The candidate should be well-versed in track construction practises as well as track design concepts.
  • The candidate must be knowledgeable about Geographic Coordinate Systems, their relationships and conversions, GPS vs UTM, and city surveying practises.
  • The candidate should be well-versed in the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Occupational Health & Safety Act).
  • The candidate should have good problem solving skills.
  • The candidate should have excellent oral and written communication.
  • The candidate should have strong analytical and creative thinking skills
  • The candidate should be familiar with federal, provincial, and municipal guidelines, codes, regulations, and standards.
  • The candidate should have excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work.
  • The candidate should have strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • The candidate must be able to plan, coordinate, and direct the activities of others, as well as communicate and coordinate with consultants and contractors.
  • The candidate should be proficient in Microsoft Word, Windows Excel, Access, Office and Outlook.
  • The candidate should be able to use MicroStation CADD software as well as related Engineering and Surveying software packages.
  • The candidate must be able to coordinate the efforts of others while on assignment.
  • The candidate should be able to train others in track inspection, track layout methodology, and equipment usage.
  • The candidate must have demonstrated knowledge and experience with various survey instruments (theodolites, total stations, digital levels, etc.).
  • The candidate should be able to identify the root causes of track geometry problems and recommend solutions.
  • The candidate must have a valid Class “G” driver’s licence from the Province of Ontario.
  • The candidate must have a thorough understanding of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders, including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements for passengers and employees.
  • The candidate must understand and apply accounting principles and practises.
  • The candidate should be able to communicate in a variety of mediums.
  • The candidate must create, document, and manage information and records.
  • The candidate must demonstrate specialised knowledge and expertise in the assigned field.
  • The candidate must comprehend and apply pertinent laws and regulations.
  • The candidate must be capable of using office technology, software, and applications.
  • The candidate should be organized and flexible in nature.
  • The candidate should be a good team player with enough interpersonal and judge-mental skills.
  • The candidate should be energetic with a positive attitude.
  • The candidate should be able to work in fast-paced busy environment.
