Supervisor Mechanical (Car)

Canadian Pacific Railway has released a notification in which they’re inviting candidates for the post of Supervisor Mechanical (Car). A solid grasp of the duties and responsibilities is obligatory for candidates, and they must strive for high performance. They will assist the Mechanical Manager with the planning, scheduling and assignment of manpower to specific jobs within the Freight Car Repair and Freight Car Inspection. They are accountable for ensuring that all repairs and/or servicing are performed in a safe and efficient manner, in accordance with Company, Association of American Railroads (AAR), and Transport Canada (TC) regulations. They will ensure that there is the appropriate level of stock/material and is responsible for ordering within prescribed limits through the SAP system.  Supports all expenditure reduction initiatives.

Job description

  • Conducting job briefings, end-of-shift briefings, safety meetings, activities is the responsibility of candidates.
  • They must ensure that safety rules, procedures, and policies are followed by conducting efficiency testing and maintaining safety tracking documents.
  • Candidates will be responsible for correcting and documenting safety incidents and safety hazards/concerns. 
  • They will investigate these issues for corrective actions in collaboration with various departments.
  • They are responsible for involving the Mechanical Manager and the Health and Safety Committee within the specified timelines.

Job requirement

  • Candidates should possess proficient knowledge of railway operations (road, yard, freight car, mechanical).
  • They must have working knowledge of CPKC systems (CIM, TYES, Nexus, SAP and Wreck Estimator) as an asset.

Work setting

  • Candidates must have the ability to communicate and interact regularly with local/external counterparts.
  • They should possess the capability to work directly with employees in the shop & yard environments to establish self-managed work teams.
