Job Description

  • The candidate must prepare patients for surgery by washing, shaving, and sterilising surgical areas.
  • The candidate must administer medication as well as observe and document therapeutic effects.
  • The candidate will be expected to assist in surgery by laying out instruments, setting up equipment, assisting surgical teams with gowns and gloves, and passing instruments to surgeons.
  • The candidate must take vital signs, use aseptic techniques such as sterile dressing, control infection, monitor nutritional intake, and collect specimens.
  • The candidate must clean and sterilize the operating room and instruments.
  • The candidate must provide pre-operative and post-operative personal and comfort care.
  • The candidate will be responsible for monitoring established respiratory and intravenous therapy.
  • The candidate will be expected to provide safety and health education to individuals and their families.
  • The candidate will be expected to provide nursing services to patients within a defined scope of practise based on patient assessment and care planning procedures.
  • The candidate will be expected to monitor patients’ progress, evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions, and consult with members of the healthcare team as needed.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate must be bilingual.
  • The candidate must have a College/CEGEP diploma.
  • Candidate having experience is an asset.
  • The candidate must have an Acute Care Nursing Certificate, Intravenous (IV) therapy Certification, Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certificate, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certificate, CPR Certificate, and First Aid Certificate.
  • The candidate must be eligible for licensure as a practical nurse in the province/territory of employment, a Certified Nurse in Critical Care – Canada (CNCC-C), and licensed as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse by provincial authorities.
  • The candidate must have completed Tracheostomy care training and the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Examination.
  • The candidate should be accurate.
  • The candidate should be client focused.

  • The candidate should have effective interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
