The Dzawada’enuxw First Nation, included in the four tribes are members of the Kwakwaka’wakw group of nations. The Kwakwaka’wakw people occupy the lower central region of the Pacific Northwest Coast. Their only neighbours and areas of shared territory have been in the Broughton Archipelago. They have a long history of co-operation among the Four Tribes: Dzawada’enux̱w, Gwawa̱’enux̱w; ḵwiḵwa̱sut̕inux̱w; and, Ha̱x̱wa’mis. Their community in Ukwanalis Village is based alongside the Gwa’yi (Kingcome) River on the mainland in a glacier fed river valley, surrounded by tall mountains, across from the Northern tip of Vancouver Island.

The LILAWAGILA SCHOOL is a school in Dzawada’enuxw First Nation that is dedicated to learn and grow collaboratively so that they can provide a well rounded academic and cultural education in a strong, caring safe environment. The vision of Lilawagila School is to teach, model and share the traditional laws and values with the students, staff, parents and community through sound academic and cultural practices so that their children have a strong sense of “Nugwa’am” to become effective future leaders of the nation.

Dzawada’enuxw First Nation based in Kingcome Inlet, BC, is looking for candidates for the position of Primary School Teacher with 2 vacancies. The ones chosen to be employed will be required to start work as soon as possible. The vacancies refer to that of term or contract employment and a full time job. The shift will extend from morning to day.

Job description

  • The candidate will be required to teach students through lectures.
  • The candidate will be required to engage students in discussions.
  • The candidate will be required to deliver audio-visual presentations.
  • The candidate will be required to train students in a laboratory.
  • The candidate will be required to conduct shop and field studies.
  • The candidate will be required to prepare subject material for presentation according to an approved curriculum.
  • The candidate will be required to prepare, administer and correct tests.
  • The candidate will be required to participate in staff meetings.
  • The candidate will be required to attend educational conferences.
  • The candidate will be required to attend teacher training workshops.
  • The candidate will be required to evaluate the progress of students and discuss results with students, parents and school officials.
  • The candidate will be required to assign and correct homework.
  • The candidate will be required to provide tutoring assistance.
  • The candidate will be required to supervise teaching assistants.
  • The candidate will be required to train student teachers.
  • The work setting is a Public school.
  • The work location is a rural area and remote location.

Requirements

  • The candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree.
  • The candidate should have an experience of at least 3 years to less than 5 years.
  • The candidate should have membership in a provincial or territorial teachers’ association or federation.
  • The candidate should have a Provincial or Territorial Teaching Certificate.
  • The candidate should be willing to relocate.
  • Relocation costs will be covered by employer.
  • The candidate should have a thorough Criminal record check.
  • The candidate should have a Child abuse registry check.
  • The candidate should pay attention to detail.
