Job Description

  • The candidate will be expected to provide pre-hospital emergency care.
  • The candidate will be responsible for transporting patients to a hospital or other medical facility for further medical treatment.
  • The candidate will be expected to keep ambulances, emergency care equipment, and supplies in good working order.
  • The candidate will be required to document and record the nature of the injuries as well as the treatment received.
  • The candidate will be required to assess the extent of trauma victims’ injuries or illnesses in order to determine emergency medical treatment.
  • The candidate will be responsible for cleaning, sterilising, and replacing all supplies and equipment after use.
  • The candidate will be responsible for stabilising sick or injured patients by providing first aid treatment and life support.
  • The candidate must ensure patient privacy and the confidentiality of personal information and medical records.
  • The candidate will be responsible for supervising the inventory checklist, ordering, receiving, and stocking of first aid station medical equipment, supplies, and medications.
  • The candidate must ensure that vehicles and equipment are maintained in accordance with provincial and local regulations.
  • The candidate will be required to clean and decontaminate the ambulance after transporting or treating any infectious disease patient, as well as report infectious disease to the appropriate authorities.
  • When providing care, the candidate must be able to communicate effectively with patients.
  • The candidate must communicate with medical staff at healthcare facilities in order to provide patient information, such as medical condition and treatment plan.
  • The candidate will be required to respond to emergency calls and radio transmissions.
  • The candidate will be responsible for monitoring and caring for patients in transit.
  • The candidate must promote a positive working environment by acting professionally with clients, client family members, the public, and other emergency services.
  • The candidate must protect his or her own health and the health of others by following safe work practises, reporting unsafe conditions immediately, and attending all relevant occupational health and safety in-services.

  • The candidate must be proficient in the use of medical record software as well as office software such as MS Word and Excel.
