Job Description

  • Discover the dynamic mail operations environment that only Canada Post can provide. You will have the opportunity to work a variety of shifts as a self-starter with a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, overnights, and weekends. This temporary on-call position is an excellent way to learn about mail operations and the great jobs available at Canada Post.

Job Responsibilities

  • The candidate will be in charge of operating and transporting corporate vehicles.
  • The candidate will be in charge of material handling equipment operation.
  • The candidate will be in charge of receiving and accepting mail.
  • The candidate will be in charge of sorting, scanning, and sequencing items, as well as batch mail.
  • The candidate will be in charge of loading and transferring a postal truck.
  • The candidate will be in charge of parcel and packet transfers and dispatch.
  • The candidate will be in charge of completing reports and documentation.
  • During their employment with Canada Post, the candidate will be responsible for maintaining a satisfactory safe driving record and their appropriate class of provincial driver’s licence when operating a corporate vehicle.
  • The candidate will be in charge of lifting mail weighing up to 22.7 kilogrammes (50lbs)
  • The candidate will be in charge of performing other postal clerk duties as needed.
  • To ensure complete customer satisfaction, the candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of sales/customer service activities.
  • The candidate must be able to operate a computerised point-of-sale system.
  • The candidate will be responsible for merchandising and inventory control.
  • The candidate must maintain a high level of knowledge of postal products, services, and delivery.
  • The candidate will be required to process financial transactions (cash, cheques, debit & credit card payments)
  • Where applicable, the candidate will be required to operate mail processing equipment (clearing jams, removing mail from sorting machines, and so on).
  • The candidate will be expected to check mail items for address accuracy, proper postage, and so on.
  • The candidate will be expected to advise customers on the various services provided by Canada Post.
  • The candidate will be expected to ensure that loss prevention systems and procedures are carried out in accordance with guidelines.
  • The candidate will be expected to manage cash, money order, and stamp inventory in accordance with cash handling policies and procedures.
  • The candidate will be required to maintain proper cash and mail security.
  • The candidate will be expected to sign for and receive incoming product (registered mail, for example), obtaining signatures as needed.
  • The candidate will be responsible for handling complaints about mail theft, delivery issues, and lost or damaged mail.
  • The candidate will be responsible for sending out notifications for packages that were unable to be delivered.
  • The candidate must calculate the mailing costs of letters, packages, and parcels by weighing, computing, and properly classifying them based on their type, weight, and destination.
  • The candidate must provide superior and efficient customer service.
  • The candidate will be responsible for responding to inquiries and resolving customer complaints about postal services.
  • The candidate will be expected to establish and maintain quality controls to ensure work accuracy.
