Job Description

  • The candidate will be expected to assist dietitians or nutritionists in the planning and supervision of food service operations.
  • The candidate must design, fabricate, and fit ocular prostheses and conformers.
  • The candidate will be expected to repair, build, and modify prosthetic or orthotic appliances or footwear.
  • The candidate will be expected to supervise and direct the activities of other medical technologists or technicians.
  • The candidate must assemble or build prosthetic and orthotic appliances from drawings, measurements, and plaster casts.
  • The candidate must design and manufacture ocular implants.
  • The candidate must build, design, fit, and adjust prosthetic and orthotic appliances.
  • The candidate must assist with scheduling and workflow.
  • The candidate must plan menus and diets for individuals or groups under the supervision of a dietitian or nutritionist.
  • The candidate will be expected to assist in supervising personnel who prepare and serve food.
  • The candidate must examine and measure patients in order to create working sketches of appliances.
  • The candidate must paint the iris and pupil of artificial eyes.
  • The candidate will be required to take measurements of patients’ bodies or limbs.
  • The candidate will be expected to instruct patients on how to use and care for prostheses and orthoses.
  • The candidate must bill third-party insurers.
  • The candidate must be able to make oral solutions, ointments, and creams.
  • The candidate must ensure that prescription information is correct, enter client information into databases, and prepare medications for clients.
  • The candidate must assist patients in completing menus.
  • The candidate must keep medication inventories and prescription records for pharmaceutical products.
  • The candidate will be expected to assist dietitians with food, nutrition, and food service system research.
  • The candidate will be expected to clean and restore ocular prostheses.
  • The candidate must interpret the physician’s specifications.
  • The candidate will be expected to advise patients suffering from loss of depth perception.
  • The candidate must create and modify plaster casts.
  • The candidate will be expected to advise patients on the care and use of ocular prostheses.
  • The candidate will be expected to repair and maintain fabrication and laboratory equipment.
  • The candidate must consult with ophthalmologists regarding the insertion of ocular prostheses.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in English language.
  • The candidate must have a certificate or diploma from a one-year to two-year College, CEGEP, or other non-university programme.
  • The ideal candidate will have at least 1 to 2 years of experience in a related industry.
  • The candidate must be able to supervise 1 to 2 people.
  • The candidate should be accurate.
  • The candidate should have effective interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate must have excellent written communication skills.

Work setting

  • The candidate must work in a pharmacy or drugstore.
