Job Description 

  • Candidates working in this post are appointed to manage the activities of the Solid Waste Management Division within the Environmental Services Department which encompasses solid waste collection. 
  • Candidates are also appointed for monitoring and operation, project management, maintenance programming, technical oversight, capital planning, and customer service, working in this post. 
  • Candidates are also required for implementation and planning of project priorities to ensure consistent and uniform delivery of solid waste management services to meet the growing needs of the residents and businesses of the City. 
  • Candidates working in this post are appointed to provide leadership to the Solid Waste Management Division through ethical and accountable decision-making. 
  • They’re also required for the development of operational and preventative maintenance programming to meet service levels to be eligible for this post.

Job requirement 

  • Candidates must have completed a university degree in civil engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited university and registered as a Professional Engineer with Professional Engineers Ontario. 
  • They must possess a minimum of 7 years of proven, progressive and more responsible related work experience with at least 3 years of supervisory experience of both union and non-union staff. 
  • Candidates must attain the ability to conduct themselves with tact and diplomacy in a political environment.
  • They must have dedicated experience managing large multi-year resident-facing service contracts inducing tendering, contract administration, and negotiating terms to be eligible for this post. 
  • They must attain proven leadership skills demonstrated through coaching, mentoring, change management and continuous improvement initiatives to be eligible for this post. 
  • Candidates must have proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office like Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. 

Work setting 

  • They must have dedicated knowledge of and demonstrated ability in the City’s core competencies and relevant functional competencies.
