Job Description

  • The candidate must respond to customer complaints or concerns.
  • The candidate must maintain professionalism in customer service.
  • The candidate must load and unload goods.
  • The candidate must operate and drive straight or articulated trucks in order to transport goods and materials.
  • The candidate must oversee the vehicle’s condition and inspect the brakes, tires, lights, cold storage, and other equipment.
  • The candidate will perform pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections and oversee all vehicle aspects.
  • The candidate will be responsible for receiving and relaying information to central dispatch.
  • The candidate will be responsible for recording cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption.
  • The candidate will be responsible for tarping and ensuring cargo safety and security.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in the English language.
  • There are no standard education requirements such as a bachelor’s degree, a certificate, or a diploma.
  • A candidate with experience is an asset.
  • The candidate must have a Class 1/1F/A Licence (semi-trailer trucks), Air Brake (Z) Endorsement Certification and a Driver’s License (Class 1 or A).
  • The candidate must be able to handle a weight of up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
  • The candidate should have efficient interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The candidate should be organized and flexible.
  • The candidate should have good judgmental skills.
  • The candidate should be reliable.
  • The candidate should be a good team player.

Experience and specialization

Documentation knowledge

  • The candidate must be knowledgeable about inspection reports (pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip) and maintenance and repair reports.

Type of trucking and equipment

  • The type of trucking and equipment is tractor-trailer.

Communication systems experience

  • The candidate must be familiar with the Trip recorder (on-board computer).

Transportation/travel experience

  • The candidate must have transportation and travel experience at the provincial/territorial and regional levels.

Security and safety

  • The candidate should be subjected to a thorough criminal background check, driver’s licence validity check, driving record check (abstract) and medical examination.

  • The candidate must have a valid driver’s licence.

  • The candidate should have an eye for detail.
  • The candidate should be required to handle heavy loads as part of routine work.
