Job Description

As a temporary, on-call delivery agent (also known as a letter carrier), you’ll be the face of Canada Post in your community, ensuring that customers and businesses receive their mail and parcels on time

Job Responsibilities

  • The candidate will be required to begin your day in the depot, sorting and preparing deliveries for the day.
  • The candidate must load and drive a Canada Post postal vehicle.
  • The candidate will be required to spend the majority of your day outside, delivering mail and packages to customers on your route by foot or vehicle.
  • The candidate will be expected to put packages and letters in the mailbox and secure them with the mailbox flap.
  • The candidate will be responsible for delivering mail, parcels, documents, and other items to customers’ homes and mailboxes.
  • The candidate must return to the depot to unload the day’s incoming mail and packages for later delivery.
  • The candidate will be responsible for loading and unloading mail conveyances as well as internal mail handling equipment.
  • The candidate will be expected to assist in the sorting and preparation of mail for delivery.
  • The candidate must collect money for postage due and COD (cash-on-delivery) fees
  • The candidate will be required to obtain customer signatures for all registered, insured, or certified mail.
  • The candidate will be expected to ensure that people sign off on package receipt.
  • The candidate will be required to lift, carry, and deliver heavy bags of mail as well as packages of various sizes, as well as leave notices for packages that are undeliverable.
  • The candidate will be required to leave notices on customers’ doors informing them that their packages were unable to be delivered and will be held.
  • When necessary, the candidate will be required to communicate with the dispatcher and modify the route in accordance with the instructions.

  • The candidate will be responsible for inspecting incoming mail for signs of damage or tampering by criminals attempting to exploit vulnerabilities in the postal system.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in English or French languages.
  • The selected candidate will be required to work on an on-call basis.
  • The candidate must hold a valid Class 5 or Class G driver’s licence and have a clean driving record for at least three years (driver’s abstract required).
  • The candidate must be able to lift mail items weighing up to 22.7 kg (50 lb) and carry items weighing up to 15.9 kg (35 lb) on a daily basis.
  • The candidate must be willing to work in all types of weather in an outdoor environment.
  • Experience in customer service is a plus for the candidate.
  • The candidate must have prior experience making deliveries or working as a driver.
  • The candidate should be organized and flexible in nature.
