Job Description

  • The candidate must survey and evaluate designated sites.
  • The candidate will be responsible for watering and maintaining plants, lawns, and/or gardens.
  • The candidate must assess the health of lawns.
  • The candidate must plan and coordinate the growth and use of plants for landscaping, ornamental purposes, and other purposes.
  • The candidate must plant and maintain private and public lawns and gardens.
  • The candidate must plant and move trees.
  • The candidate will be responsible for removing trees.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in English language.
  • The candidate must have a certificate of Secondary (high) school graduation.
  • The ideal candidate will have at least 3 to 5 years of experience in a related industry.
  • The candidate must have Horticulturist Trade Certification, Landscape Gardener Trade Certification, and Canadian Nursery Landscape Association (CNLA) certification.
  • The candidate should have effective interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate must have excellent oral communication skills.
  • The candidate should be reliable.
  • The candidate should be a good team player.
  • The candidate must be punctual.

Work site environment

  • The work site environment is noisy, and the candidate must be able to work with complete concentration even in such conditions.
  • The candidate will be required to work long hours in an outdoor environment.
  • The candidate must be able to work in all types of weather.

Work setting

  • The candidate must work in the employer’s/client’s home.
  • The candidate will be required to work in various locations.
  • The candidate must be able to work as a landscape contractor.
  • The candidate must work for a residential, private company, corporate, or industrial setting.

Experience and specialization

Landscaping experience

  • The candidate must have prior landscaping experience for residential projects, parks and recreation areas, restoration and preservation projects, and sports fields.

Construction specialization

  • The candidate must be skilled in constructing fieldstone paths and rock gardens.

Area of specialization

  • The candidate must be knowledgeable about plant identification and horticulture.

Additional information

Security and safety

  • The candidate’s driving record should be thoroughly checked (abstract).

Transportation/travel information

  • The candidate must have a valid driver’s licence.

  • The candidate must have the ability to work independently.
  • The candidate should have an eye for details.
