Job Description

  • The candidate must manage landscaping projects.
  • The candidate must prepare conceptual designs.
  • The candidate must prepare proposals.
  • The candidate must estimate costs.
  • The candidate must write specifications.
  • The candidate must survey and evaluate designated sites.
  • The candidate must prepare contracts and tenders.
  • The candidate must be able to read and interpret blueprints.
  • The candidate must water and care for plants, lawns, and/or gardens.
  • The candidate will be expected to perform a variety of treatments such as pruning, spraying, repairing damaged areas, and injecting treatment solutions.
  • The candidate must assess the health of lawns.
  • The candidate will be expected to examine trees and shrubs in order to diagnose problems and disease.
  • The candidate must plan and coordinate the growth and use of plants for landscaping, ornamental purposes, and other purposes.
  • The candidate must plan and construct landscaped environments that may include trees, shrubberies, lawns, fences, decks, patios, and other landscape structures.
  • The candidate must plant and maintain private and public lawns and gardens.
  • The candidate must plant and move trees.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in English language.
  • The candidate must have a certificate or diploma from a one-year to two-year College, CEGEP, or other non-university program.
  • The ideal candidate will have at least 1 to 2 years of experience in a related industry.
  • The candidate must have Horticulturist Trade Certification, Landscape Gardener Trade Certification, Landscape Architecture Technologist Certificate, Landscape Architecture Technician Certificate, Canadian Nursery Landscape Association (CNLA) certification, and a Chemical application certificate or licence.
  • The candidate should be client focused.
  • The candidate should have effective interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate must have excellent oral communication skills.
  • The candidate should be organised and flexible in nature.
  • The candidate should be reliable.
  • The candidate should be a good team player.

Work site environment

  • The candidate must work in an environment with a high concentration of odours.
  • The candidate will be required to work long hours in an outdoor environment.

  • The candidate must work in the employer’s/client’s home.
  • The candidate must work in a garden centre, greenhouse, lawn care company, and nursery horticulture.
  • The candidate must work in both urban and rural areas.

Landscaping experience

  • The candidate must have prior experience with residential projects as well as restoration and preservation projects.

  • The candidate must be skilled in landscape design, landscape construction, horticultural consulting, and plant knowledge and identification.
