Job description

  • Labourer II will be responsible for carrying out a variety of semi-skilled manual tasks related to pothole repair, concrete repair, litter control and other related duties.
  • They also have to maintain and operate basic tools and equipment such as pumps, tampers, jackhammers, small rollers and all equipment related to the task.
  • Truck Driver III will be responsible for operating a tandem or single axle sand/plough while engaged in snow and ice control.
  • They also have to load and unload materials.
  • They will perform routine maintenance duties, such as cleaning the truck box and worksite, and performing routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  • They also have to ensure all work is to be performed in accordance with the Branch’s Occupational Health & Safety Program and Enviso – Environmental Management System (ISO 14001). 

Job requirement

  • All candidates must have Completion of Grade 10.
  • They are also requested to have minimum of 1 year of experience in operating tandem or single axle sander/plough while engaged in snow and ice control, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • They also must have 1 year labourer experience related to district programs.
  • Candidates also must have demonstrated ability to achieve results in the context of a respectful, inclusive and service-minded style.
  • They also must have a National Safety Code (NSC) course.

Work setting

  • Candidates have to conduct work in a manner that complies with the requirements set out in the City’s Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • They must have knowledge of PARS SOPs, hazards and safety precautions.
  • They also have the ability to work at various locations around the City, including areas that may not be reachable by public transit and satellite locations from trailers.
  • Candidates also must hold a valid Alberta Class 3 driver’s licence with Air Brakes Endorsement (or provincial equivalent). 
  • They have to obtain and maintain a City Driver’s permit as a requirement of this position.
