Job description
- All candidates will assist the Resource Conservation team in monitoring the health of the park ecosystem, assessing the status of species-at-risk, and completing restoration programs.
- They are also responsible for work involving visiting less-travelled areas of the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, both on land and in water.
- They also have to measure and record biological data, including handling live specimens.
- And they also have to maintain, clean and repair field equipment and control of invasive species.
- Candidates are also responsible for entering data into computer databases.
- Candidates must list both of these factors in their cover letter, and then write one or two paragraphs for each demonstrating how they meet these factors by providing concrete examples.
Job requirement
- Candidates must have basic knowledge of flora and fauna specific to Cape Breton Highlands National Park.
- They are also required to have a minimum of 1 year of post-secondary studies in a natural science or natural resource management program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- They also must be good at English.
- They also must have basic knowledge of computers and data management.
Work setting
- All candidates must have maintenance of a valid class 5 Nova Scotia Driver’s License, or other provincial equivalency.
- They have to work involving handling dead specimens and use of standard zoological preservatives.
- They also must have the ability to measure and record biological data.
- Candidates have to use a handheld GPS device and/or use GIS programs (ArcGIS, QGIS).
