Job description

  • All candidates will play a crucial role in developing and leading projects to drive economic growth and prosperity within the City of Edmonton and the Edmonton Metropolitan Region.
  • They will build and foster relationships with industry and industry organisations, as well as collaborate internally with other Branch leaders responsible for supporting industrial investment and building investment readiness. 
  • Candidates will lead the development and execution of comprehensive industrial development strategies aligned with the City of Edmonton’s strategic goals and priorities.
  • They will also represent and provide advice on industrial investment interests and impacts to City Administration and City Council to ensure corporate alignment. 
  • They also have to measure risk and establish appropriate risk mitigation strategies for all industrial development matters including but not limited to industrial and economic policy development, heavy industrial impacts, and proposed and existing pipeline setbacks.

Job requirement

  • All candidates must have a university degree in Planning, Economics, Business, Public Administration, Engineering, or related field.
  • They are also requested to have a minimum of 5 years professional related experience in project management, strategic business planning, economic attraction, target sector analysis, business retention, industrial land development.
  • They also must have experience working with industrial stakeholders in the Edmonton Region considered an asset.
  • All candidates must have excellent negotiating, problem solving and conflict management, analytic, written and verbal communication skills.
  • They also must have the ability to manage multi party stakeholder interests while achieving strategic direction and outcomes.

Work setting

  • Candidates have to develop and maintain effective strategic relationships and partnerships within a municipal, business and community context, and with other levels of government.
  • They must have a valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence (or provincial equivalent). 
  • They have to achieve results in the context of a respectful, inclusive and service-minded style.
  • They are also requested to have extensive knowledge and demonstrated skills in project management with a strong understanding of municipal development in areas of non-residential land development, specifically industrial development.
