Indigenous Consultant

Toronto Transit Commission has released a notification in which they’re inviting candidates for the post of Indigenous Consultant. Candidates are expected to have a deep comprehension of their duties and responsibilities and to put forth their best effort. They are required to bring an anti-Indigenous racism lens to support development of this strategy and to provide subject matter expertise through their lived experience and knowledge in making changes to TTC systems, policies and processes.  They are accountable for the development and implementation of anti-Indigenous racism initiatives at the TTC.  They are responsible for supporting the work being done in policy, training, programming, and instructional materials and for removing barriers for Indigenous talent in employment and the delivery to TTC services.

Job description

  • Candidates will facilitate community development activities related to the TTC’s Anti-Racism Strategy
  • They will develop working relationships with Indigenous organizations, community members, and employees
  • They will ensure the perspectives of Indigenous community members and employees are reflected in the TTC’s Anti-Racism Strategy and initiatives 
  • They will initiate, manage and maintain inter-departmental partnerships and integrated service planning for Indigenous Peoples.

Job requirement

  • Candidates must have the completion of a diploma or degree in Indigenous Studies,  Sociology, Social Work, Community Development, Community Health Promotion or the  equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • They should possess lived experience as a First Nations, Métis or Inuit person.
  • They must have considerable knowledge of current and historic legal frameworks that impact First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples.

Work setting

  • Candidates should possess the capability to promote and advise on the collection and analysis of data to identify and remove racial inequities.
  • They must have the ability to develop anti-Indigenous racism training (including training on Indigenous Peoples, histories, perspectives and realities) and facilitate training across the organization.
