Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in English language.
  • The candidate should have recent experience working with the elderly and/or physically disabled.
  • The candidate must have a satisfactory employment history.
  • The candidate must have a Health Care Aide/Home Care Attendant certificate from an educational institution recognised by the WRHA.
  • Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • The candidate must have a valid driver’s licence and a vehicle in order to make home visits to various clients in the community.
  • The candidate should have excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work.
  • The candidate should have strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • The candidate should have good problem solving skills
  • The candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • The candidate should have good interpersonal and judge-mental skills.

  • The candidate will be required to provide personal care such as toileting, bathing, and perineal care.
  • The candidate would be in charge of providing bedside and personal care.

Physical Requirements

  • The candidate should be willing to work for long hours in bending, crouching and kneeling positions.
  • The candidate must be in good physical and mental health.
  • The candidate may be exposed to infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, toxic materials, noise, allergens (i.e. residual smoke, pets and or/pet dander), physical and emotional stress.
  • The candidate may come into contact with aggressive or agitated clients/visitors/staff.
  • The candidate will be required to travel between clients in potentially hazardous driving conditions or inclement weather.
  • The candidate will be required to work in home environments with congested spaces and uneven surfaces (both inside and outside the home environment).
  • The candidate must be able to travel between assignments in the community to several private homes of clients in Winnipeg and surrounding areas, as well as adapt to changes in scheduling on short notice.
  • As per WRHA policy, this position is also subject to TB Immunization or Tuberculin testing.
