Job Description

  • The candidate will be responsible for cutting and weighing fish fillets according to specifications.
  • The candidate must cut, clean, and trim fish or seafood prior to marketing or further processing.
  • The candidate must inspect fish fillets to determine the optimal number and size of fillets.
  • The candidate will be responsible for unloading fish and shellfish from fishing vessels and transporting them to the work area by hand.
  • The candidate must use a forklift to transport unloaded fish and shellfish from fishing vessels.
  • The candidate must scrape away scales, cut fish, separate fillets, and remove scrap parts with a knife.
  • The candidate will be responsible for transporting fish and shellfish to the work area.
  • The candidate must condition fish fillets for wrapping or freezing.
  • The candidate will be responsible for inspecting products and packaging for defects, ensuring conformance to company standards, and performing corrective machine adjustments as needed.
  • The candidate must disjoint and remove the meat from lobsters or other crustaceans in preparation for canning or other processing.
  • The candidate will be responsible for recording production data.
  • The candidate must set up and operate machines to can, bag, box, or otherwise package fish and seafood products.
  • The candidate must set up and operate machines to clean, cut, cook, smoke, brine, dehydrate or otherwise process fish or seafood products.
  • The candidate must weigh fish or shellfish, record the weight, and pack the fish in ice.
  • The candidate will be responsible for cleaning machines and immediate work areas.
  • The candidate must measure and dump ingredients into the hoppers of mixing and grinding machines.
  • The candidate must sort fish according to species, weight, and destination.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in English or French languages.
  • There are no standard education requirements such as a bachelor’s degree, a certificate, or a diploma.
  • Candidate having experience is an asset.
  • The candidate must be able to handle weight up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
  • The candidate should have effective interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate must be flexible.
  • The candidate should be reliable.

Work site environment

  • The work site environment is noisy, and the candidate must be able to work with complete concentration even in such conditions.
  • The candidate must work in an environment with a high concentration of odours.
  • The candidate must be able to work in dusty, hot, cold/refrigerated and wet/damp conditions.
  • The candidate will be required to work long hours in an outdoor environment.

Experience and specialization

Field work location experience

  • The candidate must have work experience in New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Quebec.

Equipment and machinery experience

  • The candidate must have prior experience using fish canning and cooking machines, fish cleaning and cutting machines, fish meal processing machines, fish products machines, and shellfish processing machines.

  • The candidate should be subjected to a thorough criminal background check.

Transportation/travel information

  • The candidate must have their own transportation.
  • There is no access to public transportation.
