Job Description

  • The candidate must clear and collect brush and debris from fields, pens, and other work areas.
  • The candidate will be responsible for clearing fields of wood and stone.
  • The candidate must develop and guide the behaviour of farm animals.
  • The candidate must develop specific plans to prioritize their tasks.
  • The candidate will be responsible for diagnosing livestock health issues.
  • The candidate will be responsible for disinfecting pens, barns, and poultry houses.
  • The candidate must be able to handle animals.
  • The candidate must mark livestock to prove ownership.
  • The candidate must mix fertilizer.
  • The candidate must monitor animal health.
  • The candidate must perform animal grooming activities.
  • The candidate must perform livestock feeding.
  • The candidate will be responsible for pig husbandry activities, including clipping needle teeth, docking tails, administering iron and other medications, identifying piglets, and castration.
  • The candidate must prepare cattle for exhibition.
  • The candidate must supervise milking operations and ensure workers perform the tasks correctly.
  • The candidate will be responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of farm safety and biosecurity procedures.
  • The candidate must milk cows.
  • The candidate must supervise and oversee breeding and other livestock-related programs.
  • The candidate must clean stables, barns, barnyards, and pens.
  • The candidate must detect disease and health issues in crops, livestock, and poultry.
  • The candidate must perform general farm duties.
  • The candidate must write daily basic progress reports.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in the English language.
  • There are no standard education requirements such as a bachelor’s degree, a certificate, or a diploma.
  • The ideal candidate will have at least 7 months to less than 1 year of experience in a related industry.

Work site environment

  • Farm operations include beef cattle ranching and farming, as well as feedlots, hog and pig farming, and dairy farming.

Work setting

  • The candidate should be willing to work in a rural area, where most people live or work on farms or ranches. Hamlets, villages, towns, and other small settlements are in or surrounded by rural areas.
  • The candidate should work in a staff accommodation that offers live-in facilities, provided by the employer, which provides housing to its employees.

Experience and specialization

Equipment and machinery experience

  • The candidate must have experience operating an automated milking system, a tractor, a farm truck, and a loader.

Area of specialization

  • The candidate must specialize in dairy cattle.
