Job Description

  • The candidate must be able to handle animals.
  • The candidate must mark livestock to prove ownership.
  • The candidate will be responsible for monitoring the calving process.
  • The candidate must monitor animal health.
  • The candidate must perform animal grooming activities.
  • The candidate will be responsible for tracking and reporting on the current feed inventory.
  • The candidate will be responsible for weaning.
  • The candidate will be responsible for feeding and tending animals.
  • The candidate must operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment.
  • The candidate will be responsible for training horses.
  • The candidate must clean stables, barns, barnyards, and pens.
  • The candidate must detect disease and health issues in crops, livestock, and poultry.
  • The candidate will be responsible for installing and monitoring water lines, air flow, and temperature in barns, pens, and chicken coops.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in English language.
  • There are no standard education requirements such as a bachelor’s degree, a certificate, or a diploma.
  • The ideal candidate will have at least 1 to 2 years of experience in a related industry.

Work site environment

  • Farm operations include hay farming, livestock combination farming, and other miscellaneous animal farming.
  • The candidate will be required to work long hours in an outdoor environment.
  • The candidate must be able to work at heights.
  • The candidate must be able to work in wet/damp and hot conditions.
  • The work site environment is noisy, and the candidate must be able to work with complete concentration even in such conditions.
  • The candidate must work in an environment with a high concentration of odours.

Work setting

  • The candidate should work in a rural area; most people live or work on farms or ranches. Hamlets, villages, towns, and other small settlements are in or surrounded by rural areas.
  • The candidate should work from a remote location, the practice of employees doing their jobs from a location other than a central office operated by the employer.

Experience and specialization

Equipment and machinery experience

  • The candidate must have experience operating various farm equipment, including feeding and watering systems, fertilizer applicators, sprayers and duster, tractors, farm trucks, forage and haying equipment, lift trucks, manure spreaders, and tillage equipment.

Automated systems experience

  • The candidate must have experience with automated bulk grain or feed handling, as well as manure handling and storage systems.

Area of specialization

  • The ideal candidate must be knowledgeable about cattle breeding.

Animal specialization

  • The candidate must be knowledgeable about thoroughbred horses.
