Job Description

  • The candidate must clear and collect brush and debris from fields, pens, and other work areas.
  • The candidate will be responsible for performing artificial insemination, spraying or shearing livestock, and disinfecting pens, barns, or poultry houses.
  • The candidate must develop specific plans to prioritize their tasks.
  • The candidate will be responsible for diagnosing livestock health issues.
  • The candidate will be responsible for directing the farm feed inventory.
  • The candidate will be responsible for directing farm grooming activities.
  • The candidate must be able to handle animals.
  • The candidate must mark livestock to prove ownership.
  • The candidate must monitor animal health.
  • The candidate must organize tasks to complete the work.
  • The candidate will be responsible for pig husbandry activities, including clipping needle teeth, docking tails, administering iron and other medications, identifying piglets, and castration.
  • The candidate will be responsible for supervising milking operations to ensure that the work is completed correctly.
  • The candidate will be responsible for treating livestock health issues.
  • The candidate will be responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of farm safety and biosecurity procedures.
  • The candidate must keep financial and production records.
  • The candidate must negotiate with clients to provide services.
  • The candidate will be responsible for supervising and coordinating the work of general farm workers and harvesting labourers.
  • The candidate will be responsible for selecting livestock for sale.
  • The candidate must supervise and oversee breeding and other livestock-related programs.
  • The candidate will be responsible for maintaining work records and logs.
  • The candidate will be responsible for hiring and training staff.
  • The candidate must operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment.
  • The candidate must perform general farm duties.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in the English language.
  • There are no standard education requirements such as a bachelor’s degree, a certificate, or a diploma.
  • A candidate with experience is an asset.
  • The candidate must be able to supervise 11 to 15 people.
  • The candidate must have excellent oral communication skills.
  • The candidate must be well-organized.
  • The candidate should be a good team player.

Work site environment

  • The farm operations include beef cattle ranching and farming, feedlots, chicken farming, hog and pig farming, sheep farming, dairy farming, and other miscellaneous animal farming, as well as livestock farming.
  • The candidate must work in an environment with a high concentration of odours.

Work setting

  • The candidate should work from a remote location, which is the practice of employees performing their jobs from a location other than a central office operated by the employer.
  • The candidate should work in a staff accommodation that offers live-in facilities, provided by the employer, which provides housing to its employees.
