CHANCES Inc based in Cardigan, PE, is looking for candidates for the position of Early Childhood Program Staff Assistant who are self-motivated and have good interpersonal skills. CHANCES (Caring, Helping, and Nurturing Children Every Step) is a non-profit nonprofit organisation dedicated to providing a variety of child development and parent support services to children ages 0 to 11 and their families, particularly those facing significant life problems.
CHANCES receives financing from the Public Health Agency of Canada, the province of Prince Edward Island, and private donations to provide a variety of comprehensive programmes and services. CHANCES also provides self-sustaining programmes for families on a fee-for-service basis. The candidate who got selected will be required to start work as soon as possible. The vacancies refer to that of Term or contract or Part time job. The shift timing include Day, To be determined and Morning.

Job description
- The candidate will be responsible for supporting early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children.
- The candidate will be required to prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods.
- The candidate will be required to lead activities by telling or reading stories.
- The candidate will be required to lead activities by teaching songs.
- The candidate will be required to have knowledge of Day Nurseries Act.
- The candidate will be required to have knowledge of licensing regulations.
- The candidate will be required to establish guidelines for behavior.
- The candidate will be required to lead activities by taking children to local points of interest.
- The candidate will be required to guide and assist children in the development of proper eating,
- The candidate will be required to guide and assist children in the development of dressing habits.
- The candidate will be required to guide and assist children in the development of toilet habits.
- The candidate will be required to supervise maintain daycare equipment.
- The candidate will be expected to help with housekeeping duties
- The candidate will be expected to help with cooking duties.
- The candidate will be required to assist early childhood educators or supervisors in keeping records.
- The candidate will be required to attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children.
- The candidate will be required to discuss the program’s daily events with family members at drop-off and pick-up times.
- The candidate will be required to encourage and assist each child in carrying out daily routines.
- The candidate will be required to observe how children use the materials and interact with each other and adults.
- The candidate will be required to assisting the childcare educator in maintaining a safe and positive environment.
- The candidate will be required to provide positive guidelines such as re-directing, positive language and reinforcement.
- The candidate would be responsible for representing and documenting children’s activities-display of children’s drawings and printing, portfolios.
- The candidate will be required to seek out opportunities to recognize and celebrate new developmental achievements
- The candidate will be required to engage each child individually each day.
- The candidate would be responsible for monitoring and supervising the children constantly.
- The candidate would be responsible for children aged five, three, four, and up to twelve years old.

- The candidate should have minimum qualification of Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
- Previous experience is not mandatory.
- The candidate should have their Immunization records.
- The candidate should have experience with Special Needs Children.
- The candidate should have experience with Children with an intellectual disability.
- The candidate should have experience with Children with behavioral issues.
- The candidate should have experience with Children with allergies.
