Job Description

  • The candidate must bathe, diaper, and feed infants and toddlers.
  • The candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children.
  • The candidate will be responsible for storytelling.
  • The candidate will be responsible for supervising employees, trainees, or volunteers.
  • The candidate must lead activities such as telling or reading stories, teaching songs, and taking children to local points of interest.
  • The candidate will be expected to assist early childhood educators or supervisors in maintaining records.
  • The candidate must engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs, and preparing crafts.
  • The candidate must provide opportunities for creative expression through art, dramatic play, music, and physical activity.
  • The candidate must guide and assist children in developing proper eating, dressing, and toilet habits.
  • The candidate must observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioral issues and prepare reports for parents, guardians, or supervisors.
  • The candidate must submit written observations of children to early childhood educators or supervisors.
  • The candidate will be expected to discuss the children’s progress and problems at staff meetings.
  • The candidate must be familiar with the Day Nurseries Act.
  • The candidate must be knowledgeable about licencing regulations.
  • The candidate must establish behavioral guidelines.
  • The candidate will be expected to assess children’s abilities, interests, and needs and to discuss progress and problems with parents and other staff members.
  • The candidate must attend staff meetings to discuss the progress and problems of the children.
  • The candidate must develop and maintain collaborative relationships with coworkers and community service providers who work with children.
  • The candidate must plan and maintain an environment that protects children’s health, safety, and well-being.
  • The candidate must supervise and coordinate the activities of other early childhood educators and early childhood educator assistants.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in English language.
  • The candidate must have a College, CEGEP, or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program lasting one to two years, or equivalent experience.
  • The ideal candidate will have at least 1 to 2 years of experience in a related industry.
  • Fluency in Mandarin,ย Persian and Korean is an asset.
  • The candidate must have Child Development Worker (ECE Level 2) certification, Emergency Child Care First Aid and CPR, Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate, First Aid Certificate, and CPR Certificate.
  • The candidate must be a member of the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE).
  • The candidate must be punctual.
  • The candidate should be dependable.
  • The candidate should have effective interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate should have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The candidate should be flexible.
  • The candidate must be interpersonally aware.
  • The candidate should be reliable.
  • The candidate should be a good team player.
  • The candidate should give importance to values and ethics.

Work site environment

  • The candidate will be required to work long hours in an outdoor environment.
  • The work site environment is noisy, and the candidate must be able to work with complete concentration even in such conditions.
  • The work site is non-smoking and air-conditioned.

Work setting

  • The candidate must work in a child care centre.
  • The candidate must be willing to work in a rural area.
  • The candidate must be willing to relocate to the specified location.

Experience and specialization

Experience with special needs children

  • The candidate must have experience caring for special needs children such as children with behavioral issues, children with allergies, children with asthma, children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or attention deficit disorder (ADD), and children with epilepsy.
