Job Description

  • The candidate must operate buses, school buses, or streetcars to transport passengers.
  • The candidate will be responsible for providing passengers with information about fares, schedules, and stops.
  • The candidate will be responsible for collecting fares and keeping records of transactions.
  • The candidate must report delays, mechanical problems, and accidents.
  • The candidate will be responsible for loading and unloading vehicles.
  • The candidate must deal with the public.
  • The candidate must complete logbooks and reports.
  • The candidate must deal with difficult passengers and resolve conflicts.
  • The candidate must use two-way radio systems to communicate with other drivers, dispatchers, and passengers.
  • The candidate will be responsible for ensuring children’s safety when boarding and leaving buses, as well as crossing streets while the bus is stopped.
  • The candidate will be responsible for performing pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections, as well as overseeing all vehicle aspects.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in English language.
  • There are no standard education requirements such as a bachelor’s degree, a certificate, or a diploma.
  • The ideal candidate will have at least 1 to less than 7 months of experience in a related industry.
  • The candidate must have Air Brakes Endorsement, Air Brake (Z) Endorsement, and a Driver’s licence (Class 2, B, or C).
  • The candidate should be client focused.
  • The candidate should have effective interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate must have excellent oral communication skills.
  • The candidate should be organized and flexible in nature.
  • The candidate should have good judgemental skills.
  • The candidate should be reliable.
  • The candidate should be a good team player.

Experience and specialization

Type of experience

  • The candidate must have experience as a subway operator, school bus driver, intercity bus driver, tour and charter bus driver, para-transit driver, bus driver, or streetcar/subway car driver.

Transportation/travel experience

  • The candidate must have travel experience in local areas.

Security and safety

  • The candidate should be subjected to a thorough criminal background check as well as a driving record check (abstract).

Transportation/travel information

  • The candidate must have a driver’s abstract. It contains information about traffic violations, accidents, suspensions, and other relevant details that reflect a driver’s ability to operate a vehicle safely.
  • The candidate must have a valid driver’s licence.

  • The candidate must have 20/20 vision.
  • The candidate must be able to distinguish between colours.
  • The candidate should have an eye for details.
  • The candidate must have excellent hand eye coordination.
  • The candidate should be willing to work for long hours in sitting positions.
