Job Description
- Candidates working in this post are appointed to contribute to the restoration of wild caribou populations within the Jasper/Banff Local Population Unit.
- They’re also appointed to supervise the daily activities of other husbandry personnel who assist in supporting the Centre
- Candidates working in this post will have to liaise with the program veterinarian on topics related to herd health programming.
- They are also liable to report directly to the manager of the Caribou Conservation Breeding Centre and will work with the program veterinarian to develop and implement standard operating protocols in the organization.
Job requirement
- Candidates must have completed graduation from a Canadian Veterinary Medical Association and successful completion of the Veterinary Technician National Examination to be eligible for this post.
- They must have a minimum of 2 years of large ungulate husbandry and handling experience at an accredited zoological institution, in specialized livestock programming.
- Candidates must have experience applying quantitative health assessments of animals in captivity.
- They must attain dedicated experience in collecting monitoring data to support analyses, for publication in scientific manuscripts or reports.
- Candidates must attain dedicated knowledge of methods and procedures for in-situ animal management, monitoring, record keeping, organization, and analysis.
- They must have knowledge of the operation and basic maintenance of wildlife laboratories and medical equipment.
- Candidates must attain the ability to establish priorities, analyze requirements, organize workload, and make recommendations concerning animal health and husbandry.
- Candidates must be able to coordinate, monitor, deliver, and evaluate specialized wildlife health and husbandry activities to be eligible for this post.
- Candidates must attain dedicated experience with wildlife conservation projects, and captive ungulates to be eligible for this post.
Work setting
- Candidates must have to maintain a Reliability Status security clearance.
- They must be willing to work and travel in a variety of terrains and weather conditions in the performance of their duties.
