Policy Development Officer 

The City of Toronto has released a notification in which they’re inviting candidates for the post of Policy Development Officer. They identify, collect and maintain performance measures and key performance indicators for the division. They need to deal with confidential and sensitive information affecting divisional operations, staffing and budget related implications. They lead task forces and special committees. They need to develop divisional communication materials and content for internal and external stakeholders.

Job description

  • Candidates must lead strategic policy development, policy analysis, research, evaluation and program development processes.
  • They must provide expertise and strategic advice to staff, management, senior management and other City Divisions regarding Indigenous procurement.
  • They must analyse trends and activities in assigned areas, particularly related to Indigenous economic development.
  • They must collaboratively develop and maintain close and effective, working relationships with management. 
  • They must develop, coordinate and implement all aspects of the public consultation process to support changes to policies and by-laws and respond to issues arising.
  • They must provide input into and administer the assigned budget, ensuring that expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations.

Job requirement

  • Candidates must complete Post-secondary education in public administration, public policy and business administration.
  • They must have experience with policy analysis, planning and development.
  • They should atleast have experience with program design, implementation and evaluation.
  • They must have experience in cultivating and managing relationships/partnerships with a broad range of community organisations and stakeholder groups, in particular Indigenous partners.
  • They must possess experience in project management, with the demonstrated ability to effectively meet deadlines.

Work setting

  • Candidates must represent City interests in inter-jurisdictional, inter-governmental, international and community meetings/settings.
  • They must participate in inter-Divisional policy/program development initiatives.
  • They need to conduct on-site visits.
  • They need to provides strategic financial/political advice.
  • They must analyse and research issues.
